I've spent the last 15 years composing paintings using only natural elements for "environment". I recently decided to challenge myself to find a way to incorporate manmade elements into my subject's lives. My new series, "Murals, Meanings and Manmade Objects" is proving to be an exciting way to tell a story.
Right now, I'm working on a 60x60" painting, "The Sky's the Limit". This piece is about American ingenuity and opportunity. It depicts an iconic bison standing before the Grand Tetons. As we look closer, we realize the mountains are actually a mural on a block wall, symbolizing barriers in our world. A chainlink fence and city curb stand as metaphors for the obstacles we face in pursuit of our dreams. There is graffiti covering the lower part of the wall and on the bison's fur, telling a story of rebellion and self-expression. An American flag hangs down, reminding us of our duty to strive for excellence. The word 'BOUNDLESS' can be picked out of the letters on the wall and the animal's fur, serving as a reminder that our potential is limitless. This painting is an exploration of the American spirit, and the colors of the flag - red for bravery, white for innocence, and blue for vigilance, justice, and truth - serving as a poignant reminder of the values that we must uphold to truly prosper.
